About Charlotte

Charlotte Koonce is a Boston-based composer whose work is largely informed by curiosity, gratitude, and a concern for justice. With solo musicians, quartets, choirs, fixed electronics, micro-operas, and orchestras as her medium, Charlotte composes with the intention of revealing illusory norms and bringing attention to silent truths.

Charlotte holds bachelor's degrees in composition and communication from Denison University, where she studied with Ching-chu Hu, HyeKyung Lee, and Zachery S. Meier, and was awarded the Elliot D. Borishansky Composition Award and the Arthur Judson Prize in Music. At Denison, Charlotte had the formative opportunity to write for and learn from ETHEL and Third Coast Percussion. Charlotte received her master's degree in composition from Longy School of Music of Bard College where she studied with Amy Beth Kirsten and Alexandra du Bois.

Ensemble-specific composition, film scoring, video game scoring, arranging, orchestration, and sound production are all areas of interest and intrigue that Charlotte hopes to explore in her career. She envisions a non-linear career in all things music-making and is eager to collaborate!
